Description

LizardOS is a computer operating system which we warrant is compatible with the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 10th generation with an Intel i7 processor, at least 32GB of RAM, and at least 1TB of PCIE NVME SSD storage and a WUXGA (1920×1200) display. No other hardware configuration is supported. We plan to offer bespoke support for customers wishing to use desktop computers (or other high-performance laptops) in a later release.

To install the software, you must know how to update your BIOS using the built in Lenovo tool, change your BIOS settings (secure boot and power management), write an ISO file to a USB flash drive, and boot from a flash drive. Basic instructions are provided but we do not provide additional support for these steps.

A blank 16 GB blank USB flash drive of at least USB 2.0 speed is required and not included with your purchase.

The following limitations also apply.

Software Compatibility: The software installs Fedora Linux, Debian Linux, and optionally Microsoft Windows Server 2019 if chosen by the user. No other operating systems are supported. No software which is not compatible with these operating systems is supported.

Localization and Keyboard: We assume that customers are using a keyboard similar to en-US, in QWERTY format. Other keyboards and internationalization is not currently supported.

High Resolution: Although LizardOS will probably work on Thinkpad X1 Carbon models with built in high resolution displays, this is not officially supported. The reason is that HiDPI support has not been configured in the standard release. We confirm that external displays up to 4096×2160 are supported over HDMI. Consult the Intel Graphics spec sheets for Displayport resolutions.

Games and Graphics: Due to the security features of the software, hardware acceleration on graphics is not supported. OpenGL will not work. This means that several hardware accelerated applications, notably games but also some productivity software like Kraken’s CryptoWatch trading terminal will not work. Youtube will work.

VPN: A demo VPN is provided and autoconfigured. This is not included in the price and we do not guarantee uptime or bandwidth. Github blocks connections from this VPN. Customers wishing to log into Github should use TOR (included) or another VPN service. We strongly recommend customers to set up another VPN or use TOR rather than using the demo shared VPN. The country / IP address of the shared VPN is Germany and is hosted by Linode.

Errata: upon resuming from suspend, the trackpoint works but the trackpad mouse does not work. The solution is to close the lid of the laptop to enter suspend mode again, then wake the laptop. After the second suspend, both the trackpoint and the touchpad work correctly. This is a driver issue and is excluded from support.

Kernel updates: We have frozen kernel updates as newer kernels introduce issues with resuming the laptop from sleep. Kernels other than the versions shipped with the installer are not supported, although it is likely that the issues are eventually fixed upstream (by the Linux kernel maintainers or the Fedora/Debian maintainers).
